We are all in the perpetual pursuit to upgrade to something better and more with the times. Let’s therefore welcome 2019 with something special. LED lights have revolutionized automotive lighting and manufacturers have already embraced this advanced form of lighting. This is because these lights are brighter, less energy consuming and significantly longer lasting. SEALIGHT is the aftermarket manufacturer that has made this new technology available to you within your reach. Therefore, if you are seriously considering an upgrade, here’s what you ought to be looking at.
LED Headlights work on an entirely different principle than that of halogens. They have no filament. They operate by transferring current through a semi-conductor. This movement of electrons through a semi-conductor emits photons producing light, making them a lot more efficient than halogen bulbs. Comparatively they also generate significantly less heat and offer better durability. Operating temperature of the LEDs if maintained within a reasonable zone, they could even run indefinitely. For this reason manufacturers claim 20,000+ hours of operating life for headlamps. These lights require a lower voltage than halogens and give a brighter and whiter light. An added plus is the flexibility of altering the colour by changing the physical properties of the semi-conductor.
Upgrade to LED isn’t rocket science. User friendly DIY kits are available in the market. You can order these online. The tools are basic. Even a flat head screw driver or pick tools are sufficient. Your installation time is just about 30 mins. Test your kit for errors or any other related issues.
LEDs are not restricted only to headlights in an automobile but you can also upgrade your interiors, backlights, tail lights or even consider vanity lights. The possibilities are endless. For instance you could have mood lighting for the interior of your car. A DIY kit for the interiors of your car would typically consist of the following components.
- 12 LEDpanels (x2) - front and rear center dome
- T10 bulbs (x8) - map, foot wells, doors
- 39mm festoons (x1) – glovebox
- 42mm festoons (x3) - visor and trunk
- Additional four (4) T5 bulbs to go into the back seat area in case of a coupe
For the door lights undo the courtesy door lamp. Gently undo the assembly and replace the bulb with the T10 high powered LED bulb. Check for polarity and if the bulb does not turn on, remove and flip around. Refit the top cover and insert the courtesy lamp into its slot. Repeat a similar procedure for the foot wells.
Up until recently, the uniform design aesthetics were only being applied to night time design elements. We can now see vehicles that have super uniformity in the brake light section of the tail light. Some tail light units combine brake light and night time design elements to give a single uniform look. LED modules are becoming the integrated circuits of the solid-state lighting industry, the same way as microcontrollers evolved. They are increasingly being marketed in a modular format for limitless applications. The advantages too are similar. They are faster, easier to design and lower your costs through reduced component count and smaller form factor.
SEALIGHT has made significant progress in incorporating the LED technology for Automobile lighting. Make that your excuse to upgrade in 2019.
