LED is replacing Halogen in the transport industry. Here is why.

It is not surprising that LED has taken over the market. In fact, it has become a household name moreover.

But have you wondered why?

Well, there are many reasons for this. Light emitting diodes or LED are the most advanced technological discoveries in the lighting industry.

Definitely, the led bulbs operate differently than traditional halogens. The foremost reason is they are rugged and highly durable. Halogens function in a very similar way as the regular incandescent bulbs. They have a tungsten filament at the center which is enclosed by a quartz envelope that has a halogen gas inside it.

Among the car headlights, LEDs are gradually getting very popular and are replacing the halogens for an unspecified period of time in the future.

Let us look at the advantages of LED in depth.

  • Consumption of Energy

Unlike LEDs, the halogens consume a large amount of energy and thus, cannot be used as headlight bulbs in cars. On the other hand, the LEDs consume only a fraction of the power consumed by traditional halogens. Living in a world where saving energy is the prime motto, using halogens will prove to be just the opposite.

  • Durability

LEDs can provide you service for as long as 60,000 hours, unlike the halogens. So, by that time, if you are using halogen, you will have already bought around 15 to 20 halogens for getting the equivalent service. On the other hand, they are made of quartz and glass and thus are brittle. But LED headlights are made of a solid semiconductor which makes them even more durable.

  • Heating performance

As already mentioned, the halogens are great heat emitters as they burn brightly. In case of an accidental touch, you may cause some injury too. On the other hand, the LEDs emit very little heat and don’t increase the car temperature. As a result, the car’s engine and other parts work smoothly.

  • Color

Among car accessories, LEDs are available in a number of colors and are suitable to any situation of lighting. Halogens, whereas produce heat and thus emit a bright light in white. Whereas, LED can be customized to soothe the occasion and the environment with the color they are available in.

  • Source of power

LEDs do not require any connection with the power source in order to function. Additionally, they also consume less power as already mentioned. And thus, they are the best fit for lighting for the headlights in cars.

  • Compact

LEDs can be manufactured in any design and shape and size. Therefore you can get custom headlights for your car to suit your specifications. However, the halogens are not so user-friendly and thus cannot be customized as per discretion. They tend more towards the design of simple incandescent bulbs and thus account for lesser adaptability.

  • Warm up time

LEDs do not require any warm-up time. They get lighted up as soon as you put on the switch. This makes them great to use in the transport industry. Whereas, the halogens are slow and take some time to fully light up.

  • Directional

Yet another advantage of using LEDs is that they emit light ion specific directions, where you need the light, unlike halogens which spread light in almost every direction possible. This phenomenon thus helps in saving energy and power consumption too. Alongside, you can also control the intensity of brightness and color both.

Therefore, LEDs are highly helpful as car parts when you compare them with the traditional halogens. In terms of longevity and savings, LEDs are a great saver.
