Do you need to opt for Xenon lamps?

Posted by on

With new technologies being adopted in the automobile industry, more and more efficient lights are introduced and this applies not only for those high-end luxury cars but also the regular cars. The evolution of LED bulbs has almost replaced the Halogen bulbs in cars with their energy efficiency and customizable shapes and wattage. Now, challenging the functionality of LEDs, the Xenon Lamps are creating a stir among the car users, especially those who drive the luxury cars.

The argument regarding which light is more suitable as custom headlights will be continued and to keep you out of confusion, here is a detailed idea about both LED and Xenon lamps along with their pros and cons.

Xenon Headlights – Characteristics

Commonly known as HID or High Intensity Discharge lamps, the Xenon lamps are known for their color temperature along with their generation of extra bright light. Structures of these headlight bulbs are quite distinct with the Xenon-filled tube made of transparent quartz having Tungsten electrodes on each end with current (electric) passing through.

The advantages of these lamps as car accessories are their excellent lifetime which is much greater than Halogen or LED and their efficiency in creating more lights while consuming less power. With so much flare, the driver will be offered better visibility.

Coming to the disadvantages of the Xenon headlights, the excessive glares can often make it impossible to detect the incoming traffic. With so much efficiency and complex structure, the cost will surely be much higher. Besides, as many lamps contain harmful materials, in some states they are illegal to use. Also, a few seconds will be needed to attain full brightness.

LED Bulbs –Characteristics

Built specially for standard cars for the mass, the LED bulbs work with the process of electroluminescence that works at the speed of 1000 times/ second. Generally a 2 millimeters LED (Light Emitting Diode) emits light continuously while consuming relatively lower power than the Xenon bulbs.

Although the light emitted by LED headlight is lower than Xenon lights, the focused rays are the advantages and as an added bonanza, different shapes can be created. They can be manipulated strategically, thanks to their compact size and their assemblies are compatible with different models.

Although production cost is higher and designing is a complex process, the LED bulbs consume energy at quite lesser extent and offer warmer lights than the Xenon lights and Halogens.

Why Opting For Xenon Lamps Will Be Bad Idea?

So, now judging by the advantages and disadvantages of both type of headlight bulbs, it can be said that the choosing the LED lamps over the Xenon lamps will be better idea. Here is why –

  • Xenon bulbs might not be compatible with the older cars as they would not support the latest technological advancements.
  • While LED lights offer sober and focused light which will not distract your view of the incoming vehicles, the Xenon lights with their extra intensity light can be quite problematic for both the traffic on road.
  • Many Xenon lights do not consist of car parts like projectors, which is why they can face legal issues in many states.
  • LEDs are much durable and cleaning them is easier than Xenon lights.

With a standard assembly, the LED headlights can offer you a sober and bright light perfect for driving. They are low power consuming and less complex than the Xenon headlights, which is why the answer to the question of opting Xenon lamps will be no.
